  5.         The mystique of amateur radio is a dark curtain few brave souls
  6.  dare to open. However, once opened, we find the hobby is as interesting
  7.  and as usefull as could be humanly expected. So why the mystique?
  8.  
  9.         Maybe it's the weird stuff we do. Maybe it's the strange language
  10.  we use. For instance, what is a syllogism? According to websters dictionary,
  11.  a syllogism is described as "a deductive scheme of a formal arguement
  12.  consisting of a major and a minor premise and a conclusion which must be 
  13.  true if the premise is true."

  15.         A few that relate to us follow.

  17.         * Most radios run on 12 volts.
  18.         * Cars have a 12 volt system.
  19.         * Therefore anyone who buys a radio should buy a car (or vice versa).
  20.  
  21.         * His signal is horrible.
  22.         * He just bought a new radio.
  23.         * Therefore he should see a throat specialist.
  24.  
  25.         * Talking is part of ham radio.
  26.         * Code is also part of ham radio.
  27.         * Therefore politics is what ham radio is all about.
  28.  
  29.         * Most amateur radio operators are men.
  30.         * Most hams enjoy "Fox Hunts".
  31.         * Therefore divorce is inevitable.
  32.  
  33.         * A radio uses frequency.
  34.         * A ham uses a radio.
  35.         * Therefore hams do it with frequency.
  36.  
  37.         * He is often "On the air".
  38.         * He always signs as "Mobile".
  39.         * Therefore he lives in his car.
  40.  
  41.         * He is a club member.
  42.         * Nobody ever sees him at club meetings.
  43.         * Therefore we must all be blind.

  45.         * Parents are always right.
  46.         * Parents say "Shut up and listen!"
  47.         * Therefore all hams are rebels.

  49.         * Ham radio equipment costs a lot of money.
  50.         * Most hams have a lot of gear.
  51.         * Therefore all hams must be rich.
  52.  
  53.         * I'm a dedicated ARES (RACES) member.
  54.         * ARES objectives are unquestionably beneficial.
  55.         * Therefore I should be paid large amounts of money.
  56.  
  57.         * I'm a ham.
  58.         * Hams talk to people all over the globe.
  59.         * Therefore I'm famous.
  60.  
  61.         * Hams are up all night.
  62.         * Hams know all about whips and rubber ducks.
